After a Sunday afternoon loss to the Melville Mils, the Cards hit the road to face the always tough Regina Red Sox on Tuesday July 24. Wryland McKnight started on the hill and threw very well in front of a crowd of just over 1000 as he went six innings allowing just six hit, two earned run in a 6-2 Cards victoy. Matt Zanutto and Austin Skelhorn came out of the pen and slammed the door to close the game out.
The offence tallied twelve hits and the defence was flawless as they did not commit an error. Jared McDonald had three hits and an rbi, while Riley Jepson’s multi hit game included a home run. Colin Kellington and Ryne Niemi also had multi hit games. Griffey Halle, Jack Swisher, and Logan Zozaya had one hit each
On Wednesday July 25 the Moose Jaw Miller Express came to town. The Cards looked to avenge a 9-3 loss July 20th and did just that as Owen Steele continued his magical season allowing just one run over seven innings in a 6-3 Cardinals victory. Steele has now only given up 8 runs in 49 innings for an E.R.A of 1.47 (ratio of 9 innings). Needless to say he should receive some WMBL hardware this season. Matt Zanutto had another spotless inning of relief while Austin Skelhorn finished off the Millers.
The Cards had double digit hits once again with 11. Colin Kellington set the tone early as he launched the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to give the Cards the lead to stay. Ryne Niemi had three hits including a double. Jack Swisher extended his hitting streak to five games with a double and triple with a pair of rbis. Griffey Halle had a single and double. Jared McDonald, Logan Zozaya, and Jayse Wilson had one hit each.
The defence played well committing jut one error.
The Cards record improves to 12-30 on the season as they host the Regina Red Sox tomorrow evening in a double header starting at 6:05 PM
