The Cardinals slow start to the season continued in Regina on Sunday June 24 as they went to Currie Field for a double header vs the Red Sox. Unfortunately they could not get anything going in losses by 11-4 and 5-3.
In game 1 Harrison Grow got the starting pitching assignment and struggled through 4 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs to take the loss. Jake Gill and Logan MacDougall came in relief.
The offence could only generate 5 hits as Riley Jepson had a pair of doubles while Clyde Yeh hit his 2nd home run of the season. Griffey Halle and Colin Kellington also had one hit apiece.
Game 2 was a much closer, competitive contest as the Cards tied the game at 3 in the top of the sixth. Unfortunately the Red Sox scored 2 in the bottom half to take a 5-3 lead and hold on to win by that same score.
Pitching duties were shared by Andrew Cisneros, Austin Skelhorn, Brian Chen and Parker Hubbard. Chen gave up the go ahead run in the sixth to take the loss.
Jared McDonald led the way offensively with two hits including a double. Thirus Jones had 2 rbi, while Griffey Halle, Riley Jepson, Ryne Niemi and Jayse Wilson each had one hit.
On June 27 the Cards were back in Regina after the umpires failed to show up in Yorkton for the make-up game on June 25. Once again it was a close contest but the Cards came up short in a 4-1 loss.
The pitching was very good as Wryland McKnight had a quality start of 6 innings and 3 earned runs. Matt Zanutto tossed two shutout innings to finish things off. Unfortunatelt McKnight’s performance was wasted as he took the loss.
Logan Zozaya led the way with a single and a double, while Halle also had a double. Jared McDonald, Jack Swisher and Kellington each had hits as the Cards could only manage 6 total. With the loss the Cards record drops to 4-15 on the season
