The Cardinals traveled to Moose Jaw to face the Miller Express on Thursday, May 31. After a 2 rbi single by Ryne Niemi in the top of the first inning to give the Cards a 2-0 lead, the Millers responded with 8 in the bottom half to take a commanding 8-2 lead on the way to a 9-3 victory.
It was a night to forget for starting pitcher Austin Skelhorn of Aurora Ontario. He surrendered 8 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks and a hit batter without recording an out. Jake Gill of White Rock, BC would come in relief and toss 4 innings while giving up just one run. Andrew Cisneros (Sacramento, CA) and Chris Cook (North Delta, BC) would each throw 2 scoreless innings to finish off the game.
Offensively Ryne Niemi (Belton, TX) led the way with 2 singles, a double and 3 rbi. Dillon Champagne (Livonia, MI), Cook, and Gage Buck (Abbotsford, BC) each had a single to round out the Cards offence
With the loss the Cardinals record sits at 0-1. Their next action will be the home opener on Saturday, June 2nd at 7 PM when the Regina Red Sox invade Jubilee Park. The road game scheduled for Friday June 1st in Melville at 11:05 AM has been postponed to another date.
