The Cardinals traveled to Weyburn on Sunday June 10 for a 2:05 PM game vs the Beavers. The pendulum swung a few times before a four run bottom of the seventh was the kiss of death for the Cardinals in an 8-7 loss.
Tyson Black made his first start of the season on the mound and was perfect through three innings. He would give up two in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth to finish with four runs allowed (three earned) over six innings. He would allow only five hits and a strikeout while pounding the strike zone.
Andrew Cisneros (Mendocino College) entered the game in the bottom of seven. After the first two batters got out, the Beavers mounted a furious rally in which two walks, a hit batter, two singles, a double and an error led to four runs and an 8-7 Beavers lead. The Cardinals were not able to push across the tying run, extending their losing streak to eight. New Cardinal pitcher Brian Chen (Taipei City, Taiwan) threw a scoreless eighth inning of relief in his debut.
The offence was sparked by Thirus Jones (2 for 5, 1 run), Ryne Niemi (2 for 3, 2 rbi, 1 run), Gage Buck (1 for 1, 2 walks, 1 HBP, 2 rbi) and newcomer Clyde Yeh (3 for 5, 1 rbi, 1 run). Colin Kellington also had one hit, run, and an rbi.
The Cardinals will be back at it tomorrow evening as they host the Melville Millionaires at 7:05 PM. Riley Jepson (University of the Fraser Valley) and Parker Hubbard (LHP, Bevill State CC) are expected to be on the roster for this game. Come on down to Jubilee Park for a great ballgame!
