The Cardinals traveled to Weyburn on Friday June 15 to take on the undefeated Beavers. It was a nail biter the entire evening as the Cards were up 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of 9, where unfortunately the Beavers were able to continue their magical start to the season by pushing across two runs to win 4-3.
Dillon Champagne of Livonia Michigan started on the hill for the Cards, tossing 5 1/3 innings allowing just one earned run, seven hits and four strikeouts. Parker Hubbard (Bevill State CC) came in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings allowing three hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts to eventually take the loss.
Clyde Yeh (Barry University) continued to swing a hot bat with three of the seven Cardinals hits. Riley Jepson (U of the Fraser Valley), Logan Zozaya (Lane CC), Jimmy McDonald (Lane CC) and Jayse Wilson (Strathmore, AB) each had one hit apiece
On Fathers Day Sunday June 17 the Cardinals hosted their arch rivals from Melville in a 2:05 PM matinee at Jubilee Park. Several additions to the lineup made their Cardinals debut, including starting pitcher Harrison Grow (Lane CC), Jared McDonald (Western Oregon U), Griffey Halle (Western Oregon U. They all made a great first impression as the Cardinals held on to a 4-2 victory.
Grow started on the mound, and went seven innings allowing just an unearned run, five hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Brian Chen (University of Taipei) pitched a scoreless eighth, while Austin Skelhorn earned the save in the ninth allowing one run, two hits and two strikeouts.
Offensively Jared McDonald started as the DH and was 2 for 4 with a double and two rbi. Clyde Yeh had two singles and an rbi, while Halle had a double and a run scored. Thirus Jones, Ryne Niemi, Colin Kellington and Jimmy McDonald each had one hit.
With the win the Cardinals improve to 3-9 on the season, and look forward to hosting the Swift Current 57’s Monday night, June18 at 7:05 PM from Jubilee Park
